Born from the ashes of the B-Sides, the Night Times is my latest fav’ from les Disques Rogue. Two ultra-garagy tracks, with tambourine, fuzz and organ adding the compulsory ingredients to a timeless recipe. We already knew their excellent, wild Lp Here We Go and the single I don't Mind on Outro rds, their 7inch from a performance on the Jungle stage of the 2019 Funtastic Dracula Carnival which showed a collaboration with Juanito from Wau des Los Arrrghs! and that also features the cover Yo Grito by Los Sirex (check the awesome artwork of the front sleeve by Christophe Lopez-Huici), and finally the very exciting Watch Your Step on State rds. Rogue rds has just released their 4th Sp, I'm Leaving You, and it's a pure nugget. A garage one, of course!
Garage of course !
Extra punk rock ‘made in Japan’ and formed in Tokyo in 2021, with Fink from Teengenerate/Raydios..., Toyozo from the Fadeaways, Hercules on vocals, and Rayco the Ruler and Triple Junk on drums. A hara-kiri bones-shaking punk'n'roll? They released two 45s in 2023, 5.1 on Target Heart rds and I Can't Go Back on Slovenly rds, which also signed them for this brand-new first album that we've impatiently been waiting for around here in Europe. Think of the Registrators, or the abrasive sound of the early years of the TV Killers, with a few more melodic refrains. Crunchy as salted butter on your gravel ! A band that would certainly have joined the Rip Off rds crew back in the day. Killer !
Bombasse !
After the release of five Ep/Sp x, which have raised some questions about the band's musical orientation - sometimes more psychedelic than mods - everybody should finally agree with the Mocks’ sound featured on their first Lp Do You Want me Too? It's mods, it’s rock, it's mocker and it’s garage, all together ! It’s a trip back to the 60s, of course, even if the sound is still pretty modern. Check the instrumental The Spy, which seems to take us to a paradise island that could burst into chaos at any moment. There's also a definite collaboration with Arjan Spies, who signs here the song I'm Waiting, and who produces and mixes these 10 tracks recorded at Teepdek studio, just as he did with Fleur's latest 7inch. It sounds very British for Dutchmen, although the Dutch Beat influence of their elders is clearly present. A great discovery, and their show on the Jungle stage of the 2022 Cosmic Trip Festival was killer. Listen to les Grys-Grys or Howlin' Jaws x next to this one, because for me, that’s the same rock’n’roll high school (all those kids are damned good !). The sleeve isn't too shabby, although it's disconcerting at first glance (there's also a pink vinyl edition ) and it was released by Wap Shoo Wap rds (Mess Around to the Mokum Sound!).
A great, wild, r'n'roll Ep by the Spanish Magicos Dildoss, which have perfectly digested the sound of the 50's, 60's and 70's British pub rock. Fiesta, pub music, thick smoke and whisky meet on this demonic 4-track Ep ! On the A-side, A Bit Of You is setting the tone while the soul of Lee Brillaux hovers over Get Out Of My Lawn. On the other side, The King Of The Swamp and For the People are two festive, exotic, uncompromising cuts a la King Salami. It’s as if Eddie and the Hot Rods or the 101ers had met the Mummies at the crossroads of the 50s. The record was released by Hair-Man rds. Personally I love it, it went straight to my heart and my flesh. Muchas gracias German Alberto Ibanez, YO ADORO.
Muchas gracias, German Alberto Ibanez, YO ADORO.
This single is the second 7’’ of the organic fuzzy garage band from England, Crystal Teardrop. Running Out Of Time is a fresh and punchy tune, with a hint of Pandoras, or even The Brood if we have to underline the musical orientation. On the B-side, a track sung in French by the female band-leader Alexandra Rose, Après jeudi, seems to be a yéyé tribute to the French beat from the 60s. I inevitably think of Fleur and the Responsable's cover by King Khan Experience (a top record!).
With a front-cover reminiscent of the Music Machine’s legendary Talk Talk Lp, Child Of Panoptes releases a psychedelic 4-title Ep with two original songs, signed by Alexandre Besson (Chiffre Organization) : Un petit morceau de Buvard and Love (my favorite one). The two cover-songs are some obscurities from the late 60s, found on some of those overpriced compilations and 7’’ : a much more dynamic version of FOX's Hey Mr Carpenter! from 68, and the song by Andy Forray, Dream With Me. This Ep, an undisputed monument to current psychedelia, follows a debut 7’’, Walk With Me, and a Lp released on Soundflat rds in 2023. All this under the guidance of Jac & Daniel Aprosio at the studios Red Box and Canohès, with Théo Campos and Arthur de Cossette for the recording and mixing, Christophe Vaillant of SuPEr HOmmArd on the mastering. The graphic design is made by the excellent Pooley of WOomStudio, who also plays organ on one of the two sessions. A must-have, with members of Le Chiffre Organization, Falken's Maze, the Playboys, les Tiki's...!
